Posted August 04, 2006 at 11:45 AM Hey I am looking to do an at home recording. Nothing too expensive. Any suggestions on what to use. I have both Mac and PC and a few professional microphones. Ryan |

Posted August 09, 2006 at 09:55 PM A Short Thesis ( sort of) ’ I did this on my computer’ we`ve all heard it , and for those who havent done it , we go ’ aww cool dude’ You know you have . Computer recording requires several expensive investments to do it right . Software that gets that ‘Good Sound’ does not come cheap , nor will it run on an inferior machine. So what do you do ? Most amatuer musicians ( other than those born into money , and just have nothing else to do ) are on a budget. I have recorded and worked in Pro studio enviornments , and I have worked with The Sony MP 3056 Full Analouge 56 channel Mixing board (one of I believe only 5 in the world) How many of you have 4Track or multitrack recorders? (please post it) The main thing then, is to get it cleaned up and turned into a CD. So here we go…... Windows People, there are a buttload of FREE wave editors I will reccomend three or four because they work. Mac there are a couple of freebies , more for older macs than new. Windows : Audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows) , WavePad www.nch.com.au/wavepad/index.html Actually At that site is a whole suite (three progs) that are light weight and effecient that are linked together to record , edit , convert, and burn . I have them and use them. Here is a link to bunch that I have know of , some I have used a lot I havent www.mymusictools.com/download/wave-editor/ DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE FREEHIQ MP3 recorderlike on page 14 or so of that site , Active X controls that Hijack your system. Feed back on each one should be posted in a forum , Bug reports , Crashes, benefits, stability etc.. Mac for free you have very little , but they are workable ‘Audio In ’ for mac OSX www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15962 and agian a converter other than iTunes, It`s called ‘Switch ’ and its also at www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html Mac has good burning soft built in. the audio is much cleaner. The Basics , Work everything out on your Mulitracker so that it sounds good .that means not just in the headphones. If you have to take your machine to freinds houses, or places that have different sound systems , make notes of how each sounds to you , ( yes actually write stuff down) EQ settings etc. Then you are going to record the stuff directly into the Computer using a Wave prog that Records and edits. When you record add extra room on each end of the track (Start the recorder on the computer first two or three seconds bfore you raise the audio on the Multitrack.( the reason will become clear later) Using the Wave editors meters watch very carefully the input levels ( Clipping on a Computer recording is VERY bad and CANNOT be undone. You would Have to rerecord . continued in the next page. Macbook 2ghz intelcoreduo GarageBand,LoopEditor, and MiniDisc Also Have the ‘SoundSketcher’from Yamaha mics: AT822 stereo condensor, modified Dual Impedance Shure588SD, Phones:Yamaha RH-5Ma, Sony D22l, AudioTechnica studio , and a lot of misc analouge gear, 4Tracks, preamps, niknaks |
